AD Sportscars is pleased to offer this elegant 1990 Bentley Continental Convertible, presented in a particularly refined and distinctly British colour combination.
First registered in April 1990 and originally delivered in England, this right-hand-drive example has covered 77,730 miles. Its metallic blue exterior is complemented by a matching blue fabric soft top, creating a beautifully coherent and timeless appearance.
The cabin is trimmed in light grey leather with contrasting blue stitching, while the extensive wood veneer across the dashboard and centre console reflects the craftsmanship for which Crewe-built Bentleys of this period are renowned. The combination of pale upholstery, blue detailing and richly finished wood gives the interior an elegant and welcoming atmosphere.
The Continental Convertible was an exceptionally exclusive motor car. With only 421 examples constructed throughout the model’s production run, it was built in considerably smaller numbers than its closely related Rolls-Royce counterpart and remains one of the rarest open Bentleys of its era.
Each example was coachbuilt by Mulliner Park Ward, continuing the traditions of one of Britain’s most prestigious coachbuilders. The construction of a single car reportedly required approximately four months, with a significant amount of time devoted to the complex, multi-layered convertible roof alone. The result was a motor car finished to a standard that reflected Bentley’s position at the very top of the luxury market.
Beneath the bonnet lies the marque’s celebrated 6.75-litre V8, paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Rather than pursuing outright performance figures, the Continental was engineered to deliver effortless torque, exceptional refinement and the smooth, near-silent progress traditionally associated with Bentley’s large-displacement V8.
The model also holds an important place in Bentley history. Introduced in 1984, it revived the distinguished Continental name after an absence of almost two decades. Historically reserved for Bentley’s long-distance grand tourers, the designation perfectly suited a car designed to cross countries at speed while offering its occupants exceptional comfort.
The car has remained with its current owner since 2007, demonstrating a notably long period of ownership. It is accompanied by a history file containing maintenance invoices from Bentley, together with an appraisal report completed in 2017.
Combining remarkable rarity, traditional Mulliner Park Ward craftsmanship and the effortless character of Bentley’s legendary V8, this Continental Convertible represents a particularly distinguished expression of open-top British grand touring.
