The Lotus Europa is a mid-engine sportscar designed by Colin Chapman and built in England by Lotus Cars. Several variants were built between 1966-75, including this Series 2 edition from 1972.
The Europa was never a volume-produced car by many standards, with just over 9,200 units built in a 10-year span. The Europa S2 represented just over a third of that number.
Externally, the first S2 differ little from the last S1 but they offer more comfort inside: Electric windows, adjustable seats, tinted windscreen and new dashboard with wooden facade which give a more luxurious impression.
The chassis number 416 presented here was built in 1972, left-hand-drive and according to European specifications and went through a complete restoration in the years 2000 by APC in The Netherlands. A new body shell was bought from the Lotus factory (with invoice) and a new Renault Crossflow engine 1565cc was mounted. The following optional extra’s were added: aluminium rims, skirts, second ventilator, electric petrol pump and a ground switch.
The car is painted in a very elegant Midnight Blue color over a black leather interior which is in excellent condition. The current owner has always maintained the car very well and made all necessary investments to keep it up to concours state.
As part of the works that were recently done, we can mention new brakes system, new door joints, carburetor adjustment and service done by a specialist.
