The name “Ghibli” refers to a particular type of airflow: a hot wind blowing from the Sahara that can reach hurricane speed in North Africa.
Styled at Carrozzeria Ghia by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the Ghibli was a worthy rival to the Ferrari ‘Daytona’ and the Lamborghini ‘Miura’.
With its shark-shape nose, the two-seater measures more than 4.5m long and remains a gorgeous design object even by today’s standards.
Initially powered by a 4.7 liter V8, it was superseded in 1969 by the 4.9 liter SS version in order to meet ever more stringent emission laws. Truly, it deserved the name “Super Sport” in terms of performance, its top speed was close to 275km/h. Its sonorous V8 at full song will most certainly satisfy any fan of speed.
Of the total SSes made, 45 were spyders and 425 were coupés.
This exemplar is one of the latest produced because production ceased in 1973. It was delivered new to Rome and has had only two different owners for the last 28 years.
It was built as a Left-Hand-Drive car with the desirable 5-speed manual ZF transmission and was finished in the elegant Azzuro Artico blue with Senape (Tan) leather interior.
It retains its original matching numbers engine, which runs perfectly.
The bodywork has been repainted but retains the original factory color scheme. The leather seats and the carpets are in good condition.
The car is in beautiful condition today and appears to have been well-maintained and preserved. It is offered in a rare color combination at a very attractive price.
