The love rating for the Triumph TR3 has not wavered for all these years.
Its line is beautiful, no doubt. But its great popularity comes from the fact that it is easy & affordable to maintain given its very simple mechanics.
From its launch the TR3 was a big success. In 1957, a major evolution gave the TR3A : a new front facelift with a grille (big mouth) that occupies the entire width of the car and integrates the position lights and turn signals. The TR3A was produced until October 1961 when it was replaced by the TR4.
Due to the commercial failure of the TR4, production of the TR3A was restarted in March 1962. It then became the TR3B. A series of 500 copies came out of American factories (chassis number starting with TSF). A second series of TR3Bs was then produced until October 1962 (“commission number” starting with TCF like the vehicle presented here). In total, only 3.334 examples of the TR3B were produced .
This Triumph TR3B series 2, the ultimate evolution of the TR3, received the 2138 cm3 engine of the TR4 offering 105 hp and a fully synchronized gearbox.
The characteristics of the engine are flexibility and responsiveness, as well as an assertive sound identity. Even though the TR3 was designed for competition, its handling is pretty good. Nothing complex, an easy car.
The interior mixes English charm and the spirit of the competition of the time (large counters…).
