Description

The Jaguar E-Type Series 1 remains one of the most recognisable sports cars of the 20th century, combining clean, flowing lines with engaging performance. Since its introduction in 1961, it has set a benchmark in automotive design and continues to appeal to enthusiasts seeking a pure and authentic driving experience.

This early 3.8-litre Coupé is a left-hand-drive example originally delivered to New York. It features the highly desirable flat-floor configuration, a rare specification found only on the earliest Series 1 Coupés, offering a lower and a distinctive driving position particularly sought after by collectors. As expected for a flat-floor model, it is fitted with a brushed aluminium dashboard and centre console, enhancing both its period-correct aesthetic and tactile driving appeal.

Finished in its original and highly attractive colour combination of Opalescent Dark Green with Biscuit interior, this car retains its factory specification, as confirmed by its Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate. Importantly, the car is “full matching,” equipped with its original engine.

In 2019, the Etype has benefited from a comprehensive restoration carried out in France by Provost Automobiles in Le Mans, a recognised specialist. The current Belgian owner acquired the vehicle from them, in like-new condition. Since then, further improvements have been made to enhance usability and driving comfort, including upgraded braking performance and the installation of a 3.07 ratio differential (“pont long”), allowing for smoother and more relaxed driving characteristics, particularly at higher speeds.

Under the bonnet, the car is powered by its original 3.8-litre straight-six engine, paired with the 4-speed Moss gearbox and four-wheel disc brakes. This configuration delivers the raw and engaging driving experience characteristic of early E-Type models—direct, mechanical, and highly rewarding.

Regular maintenance and important mechanical work have been carried out over the years, including a major service in September 2024, ensuring the car remains reliable and ready to be enjoyed.

Now registered as an oldtimer in Belgium, this Jaguar E-Type flat-floor is available for sale and can be viewed in our showroom in Zaventem, just minutes from Brussels Airport, by appointment.
